Dog rescued from river during severe Hayle floods

A dog has been rescued after getting stuck in a river during the severe flooding in Hayle.

A major incident was declared as torrential rain left the town centre 'under water'.

An immediate action flood warning was issued and part of the A30 bypass had to be closed because there was so much standing water.

Now firefighters have revealed that they had a 999 call just after 7pm on Thursday evening, about a dog stuck in a river and unable to get out.

Crews from Hayle and Penzance rushed to the scene and managed to get the dog safely out and to its owner.

"At 19:09 Critical Control received a 999 call reporting a dog stuck in a river and unable to get out.

"Due to the potential risk to the animal one appliance from Hayle Community Fire Station and a water rescue unit from Penzance Community Fire Station, as well as a wholetime officer.

"A technical rescue adviser was also consulted.

"On scene firefighters trained in water rescued entered the water and rescued the dog who was left in the care of their owner."
