Crowdfunding campaign launched to help flash flood-hit Hayle

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 10:32am 22nd December 2019.

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help the community of Hayle after those flash floods.

A major incident was declared on Thursday as torrential rain left the town centre 'under water'.

An immediate action flood warning was issued by the Environment Agency.

Part of the A30 bypass even had to be closed because there was so much standing water.

Now a Go Fund Me page has been set up, which is aiming to raise £1,500 towards property repairs.

You can find it here.

It has been created by Iesha May Stringer who says she wants to help locals who have suffered damage just days before Christmas.

"I have started a Go Fund Me page in hope to raise funds that could help some of the properties damaged by the flooding in Hayle.

"It's so close to Christmas and it breaks my heart that this has happened.

"My aim is to try and raise enough money to help with new flooring for the properties and shops that got affected and also any other equipment people may have lost due to the storm."

Iesha says she has also been looking into what insurance will cover and how any fundraising might be able to help towards repairs.

She told Pirate FM if the insurance covers most of the damage then any money raised could cover minor damage or loss.

Iesha will be working alongside shops and the local community to work out where any money raised can go and what it can cover damage-wise.

"Parts of Hayle were left in 3ft of water today after storms battered Cornwall for the second day.

"The flooding in Hayle was declared a major incident earlier when the main road through the town (Fore Street) was closed and flood waters flowed into homes, shops and businesses."
