Man charged after 'assaults' on St Ives beach

A man has been charged after two alleged serious assaults in St Ives.

The separate incidents reportedly happened at Porthminster beach back in August and September.

During an appeal, police said one woman in her 30s suffered serious injuries to her neck in September.

During an earlier incident on the 23rd August, a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on the beach in the early hours.

The alleged assaults sparked a major police investigation and, on Saturday, a man was charged with the following:

  • Choke/suffocate/strangle to render unconscious/incapable of resistance with intent to commit indictable offence.
  • Choke/suffocate/strangle to render unconscious/incapable of resistance with intent to commit indictable offence with intent to rape.
  • Assault a female 13 and over by penetration with a part of the body.
  • Attempt to rape a woman 16 or over.
  • False imprisonment.
  • Making indecent images of children.

Clinton Ferreira from St Ives appeared before Truro Magistrates Court on Monday 23rd December.

The 37-year-old was remanded in custody and is now due at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday 14th January.
