Boxing Day flood alert for area of Cornish coast

Published by Emma Carton at 1:07pm 24th December 2019. (Updated at 1:14pm 24th December 2019)

A big stretch of the south Cornwall coast has gone back on flood watch.

An alert has been issued for the morning high tide on Boxing Day, from Lizard Point to Gribbin Head.

The Environment Agency says strong winds are forecast and could whip up huge waves.

"Flooding is possible over the high tide on Boxing Day morning.

"High water at Falmouth on Thursday morning is at 5.06am, times of high water will vary along the coast.

"Strong winds and large waves are forecast which may cause some wave overtopping and sea spray at exposed coastal locations.

"People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast.

"Keep up to date with weather and tide conditions on local radio.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as required".
