More heavy rain and strong winds to hit Cornwall

Cornwall is braced for another band of heavy rain and strong winds.

Kernow Weather Team has issued an alert for the Duchy on Boxing Day, after recording gusts of almost 60mph.

The group says gales could hit the coast in the afternoon, whipping up large waves.

"Boxing Day sees outbreaks of very heavy showers which could turn more prolonged throughout the day.

"This will be accompanied with strong south-westerly winds.

"There is a risk we could gales in the afternoon around the coast and exposed areas.

"The current weather charts are showing winds of around 20-45mph with gusts touching 55mph during the late morning to the afternoon.

"If you're have a boxing day dip in the sea or even a walk on the beach, please keep a eye on the tide times.

"There could be some very large waves around".

What is the full forecast?

The Met Office has not issued any official weather warnings for Cornwall, however it is forecasting strong, blustery showers.

Boxing Day: "Early rain will clear to heavy, blustery showers through the morning. There may be some drier and brighter interludes before another spell of heavy rain and stronger winds arrive during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C".

Boxing Day night: "Heavy rain will clear eastwards through the start of the night. Turning drier but remaining cloudy, with hill fog. Mild. Minimum temperature 9 °C".

Friday: "Most places will have a cloudy but mild day. Most will be dry but the odd spot of rain is possible. Staying very mild. Maximum temperature 13 °C".

Outlook for Saturday to Monday: "Mainly dry over the weekend with bright or sunny spells. Risk of overnight fog. Outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards Monday. Generally mild, cooler later".
