Scale of damage after big barn blaze in north Cornwall

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 9:17am 27th December 2019.

This is the scene of the damage after a massive fire tore through a barn in north Cornwall.

At its height, crews from Bodmin to Bude were battling the Christmas Eve blaze near Tregadillet.

Flames engulfed the building, that was packed full of various farming machines, wood and cylinders.

At one point, the fire was so fierce that local residents were being advised to keep doors and windows closed.

"Saltash’s ESV (Environmental Support Vehicle) and a support Fire Engine were mobilised to a barn fire near Launceston along with 6 other Cornwall appliances.

"Saltash were required due to a fuel leakage heading towards a stream. Equipment was used to create a small dam and prevent the fuel going into the stream.

"The fire is expected to burn well into the night."
