'Arson suspected' after a huge fire at a former school

Pirate FM understands arson is suspected after fire tore through a former school in Cornwall.

Flames were seen shooting from the roof of the old Roselyon building at Par.

Crews from St Austell, Fowey, Lostwithiel, St Dennis, Launceston and St Columb were battling the blaze on St Blazey Road.

Police were also notified about the incident, which began the night after Boxing Day and lasted well into the early hours of Saturday.

It has since emerged that the building was being used for storage by a community interest company, set up to support families in crisis.

"Police were called at around 11.15pm, Friday 27th December, to reports of outbuilding/sports hall of the disused/closed Roselyon School, Par, on fire with flames coming from the roof.

"The road was subsequently closed.

"Reports of three or four teenagers seen running away from the scene.

"Police treating as possible arson.

"Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 quoting, crime ref: CR/116065/19."
