Owner of stolen puppy receives hoax threats over Christmas

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 4:28pm 30th December 2019. (Updated at 10:08am 8th February 2020)

The owner of a stolen puppy in Cornwall was told to pay £1,000, or their pet would be beheaded.

Waffle the six-month-old labradoodle was snatched during his morning walk in St Austell two days before Christmas.

His owner, Catherine Hussain, believes the man who took him was carrying a knife when it happened in the Belmont Road area on the morning of the 23rd December.

Her daughter Ayesha has told Pirate FM she has had a string of hoax calls and texts about Waffle, which is causing her family even more upset.

Police have been checking local CCTV and making enquiries into the theft of Waffle.

"The family of Waffle are very distraught and upset at the callous theft of their pet dog.

"Myself and all of the officers at the police station dealing with this crime also feel very sad for the family over what is a cruel and mean-spirited crime, especially during the Christmas period.

"I am sure that someone, somewhere knows of a friend, relative or neighbour that has suddenly come into possession of a dog that may be Waffle.

"Please contact us if you have any suspicions, as Waffle should be with his real family this Christmas."

Police Sergeant Steve White
