A marked police car has been issued with a parking ticket while attending an emergency call in Plymouth.

Officers were responding to an incident at a pub on Monday.

They called the company that issued the ticket to explain, but were told to write a letter of appeal.

A spokesperson for the force says police would "rather be spending their time responding to 999 calls" than dealing with parking tickets.

"Police vehicles are exempt from PNCs while deployed on operational duties.

"We can confirm the vehicle was a fully marked police car from Crownhill Police Station, Plymouth, which was performing operational duties at the time/responding to an incident at a city pub involving several marked police vehicles.

"The police sergeant for A Section Response, Plymouth contacted the company that issued the ticket, requesting that the ticket is quashed as it was a marked police vehicle being used for operational purposes at that time; the firm refused and said the appeals process must be followed.

"It is fair to say that officers would rather be spending their time responding to 999 calls than dealing with an appeal for a parking ticket."
