'Cries for help' on beach sparks three-hour search

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:26pm 31st December 2019.

A big multi-agency search has been carried out after cries for help were heard from a beach in Cornwall at night.

Coastguard crews and lifeboats were called to the scene in Par late on Monday night.

A three-hour search was carried out but no one was found.

Officials are urging people to always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if they see or hear anyone in danger around the coast.

"The team we called out late last night at 22:58 to the reports of cries for help near Par Beach and the Par Docks area.

"The team, alongside Mevagissey Coastguard, and both lifeboats from Fowey RNLI conducted a thorough search of the area.

"After a three hour search of the area the units were stood down whilst further investigations were conducted.

"A great piece of interagency team work.

"If you see or in the case above, hear anyone possibly in trouble on the beaches, cliffs or mud around the UK please call 999 for the Coastguard."
