Horse lorry fire in quiet village is suspected arson

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 2:55pm 31st December 2019.

It is believed a horse lorry fire in a Cornish village happened under 'suspicious circumstances'.

The vehicle was found to be well alight in Stenalees, near St Austell, just after midnight on Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Roche Road and used hose reel jets to put the blaze out.

Police have also been told and the fire is being treated as suspected arson.

"Two appliances from St Austell and a flexi-duty officer were mobilised to reports of a horse lorry on fire.

"On arrival the crews found the lorry to be well alight and proceeded to extinguish the fire with breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

"Devon and Cornwall Police were informed due to the suspicious circumstances."
