Serious multi-vehicle crash on the A30 in Cornwall

Police are describing a crash on the A30 in Cornwall as serious.

Highways England said multiple vehicles were caught in the collision near Bodmin.

Police have since confirmed a lorry and a car were involved in the Lanivet area.

Tragically, an elderly man in his 80s was pronounced dead at the scene: Read More.

The incident happened just after 6pm on New Year's Day evening, closing a stretch of the road through the night.

“Appliances from Bodmin and St Dennis are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A30.

“On arrival the firefighters reported a collision between a HGV and four cars.

“One person is still inside a vehicle and the crews are currently assisting police and ambulance on scene to release the person.

“The road is currently closed in both directions”.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service

Police and Highways warned drivers that the road was expected to be closed for some time.

"The A30 Bodmin bypass is closed both ways between A391/A389 at Innis Downs and A38 at Carminnow Cross.

"Diversions available around the closure detailed here: http://m.highwaysengland.co.uk/#news

"@DC_Police advise this closure will be in for some time due to seriousness of the incident".

Highways England

Both the west and eastbound carriageways remained closed on Thursday morning, but have since reopened.

"A30 Westbound re-opened. Accident cleared from A38 (Carminow Cross) to A391 (Innis Downs Junction).

"Closed since 18:50 yesterday evening, eastbound re-opened at 06:15 with westbound re-opening around 06:50am".
