Police name teenager who died in Cornwall crash

Police have named the teenager who died after a crash on the outskirts of a Cornish village.

Caitlin Swan was out cycling near Stithians when her bicycle was caught in a collision with a van.

The 14-year-old from the Truro area was a pupil at Penair School and lost her life just days after Christmas.

The incident happened on Tubbon Hill on the afternoon of Saturday 28th December.

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued an appeal, urging anyone who saw something at around 1.45pm to come forward.

"A young cyclist who died in a fatal collision near Stithians at the weekend has been named as 14-year-old Caitlin Swan.

"Emergency services were called to Tubbon Hill at 1.45pm on Saturday [28 December] after her bicycle was in collision with a van.

"Caitlin, from the Truro area and a pupil at Penair School, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Local officers and officers from the Roads Policing Team attended, along with paramedics.

"The road was closed for more than six hours for a forensic examination of the scene to be carried out.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and appealing for witnesses. 

"They would also like to hear from anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage of the incident.
