Teenager arrested after New Year assault in St Ives

A teenager has been arrested after a serious assault in St Ives during the early hours of New Year's Day.

The casualty in his twenties was rushed to hospital just one hour into 2020.

He suffered a serious head injury following 'an incident' on The Terrace.

A 17-year-old boy from the Penzance area has now been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. 

He has been released under police investigation while enquiries continue.  

The victim remains in Derriford Hospital in Plymouth in a stable condition. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

"Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and have received an overwhelming response to our appeal for information.

"We would like to thank the public for their assistance so far."
