A school in Truro has paid a heartfelt tribute to a teenage girl who died following a crash over the Christmas holidays.

Caitlin Swan was out cycling near Stithians when her bicycle was caught in a collision with a van.

The 14-year-old, from the Truro area, was a pupil at Penair School.

Tragically she suffered fatal injuries at the scene and could not be saved.

She lost her life just days after Christmas, on the 28th December.

"It is with deep sadness and shock that we have learnt about the death of Caitlin Swan, one of our students at Penair School.

"Caitlin was a bright light at Penair, she was a young lady who had a real zest for life and was so full of energy.

"Caitlin had a wonderful smile and was also incredibly kind to others; we will all miss her greatly.

"It is very important for everyone who needs it, to get support and have someone to talk to and listen. We will ensure that support is available for our students and staff.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, our students and staff at this most difficult time."

James Davidson, Headteacher, Penair School

The incident happened on Tubbon Hill at around 1.45pm and the road was closed more than six hours while investigators went over the scene.

Officers are urging anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam footage, to come forward.
