A double weather warning for gales is now in force for Cornwall as Storm Brendan arrives.

There is a 14-hour alert for gales of up to 80 miles an hour on Monday.

That is in force from 10am through until midnight.

Now a second 12-hour wind warning has been issued for Tuesday - from midday through until midnight.

The Met Office says that could cause disruption on the roads and to public transport.

Power problems and big waves around the coast are also expected.

"Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen across much of England and Wales during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

"Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected quite widely inland, with exposed coasts and hills having gusts of around 60 mph, perhaps locally 70 mph.

"Heavy rain may be an additional hazard in places. Winds will ease from the west during Tuesday night."

Met Office
