Ex-Storm Brendan to trigger gales of up to 70mph

Ex-Storm Brendan is set to batter parts of Cornwall with gales of up to 70mph.

A fresh weather warning for the Duchy will be in force from 12pm on Tuesday.

The Met Office says strong winds and heavy rain could spark travel disruption.

Flood alerts have also been issued for the whole of the south Cornwall coast.

What does the weather have in store?

The Met Office yellow warning for gales of up to 70mph will be in force from 12pm until 23.59pm on Tuesday.

Forecasters say we can expect:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
  • "South-westerly winds are expected to strengthen across much of England and Wales during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

"Gusts of 40 to 50mph are expected quite widely inland, with exposed coasts and hills having gusts of around 60mph, perhaps locally 70mph.

"Heavy rain may be an additional hazard in places.

"Winds will ease from the west during Tuesday night".
