Man arrested after police incident on Cornwall's A30

Published by Emma Carton at 1:43pm 14th January 2020.

Police, called to reports of a man having scaled a pylon in west Cornwall, have made an arrest.

The incident at Crowlas began just after 7pm on Monday, closing the A30 for more than 12 hours.

Emergency services, including negotiators, were scrambled to concerns for a person's welfare.

Almost 150 homes were left without power at one point, however all have since been restored.

Devon and Cornwall Police have since confirmed a man in his 30s was taken to hospital before being arrested.

"Police were called at around 7.15pm on Monday 13 January after concern was raised for the welfare of a man in the area of the A30 at Crowlas.

"The male was subsequently seen climbing up an electricity pylon next to the A30.

"The road was closed at 8.15pm and officers, fire and ambulance services and specially-trained police negotiators attended the scene, along with Western Power workers.

"The dual carriageway was shut at the junction with the A3074 at St Erth and with the junction of the A394 to Newtown.

"The man remained up the pylon throughout the night. He made his way down at around 7.40am today (Tuesday 14th January) and was taken to hospital in Treliske to be checked over.

"The road was reopened by 8.45am.

"A 35-year-old man from Penzance has been arrested on suspicion of public nuisance offences".
