Homes flooded near Penzance as torrential rain hits

Around 15 homes are flooded near Penzance after wet and windy weather battered Cornwall.

Firefighters are clearing flood water on Gladstone Terrace in Longrock.

There are also reports of flooding on the A30 at Bolventor, between Bodmin and Launceston.

Drivers are being urged to take care on the roads for the evening rush hour because of standing water.

"Approximately 15 properties have been affected by flooding in Longrock, Penzance. 

"Firefighters are on scene assisting with clearing flood water using a light portable pump. 

"Cornwall Highways and the Environment agency have been requested to attend."

"Slow traffic due to flooding on A30 in both directions around Codda (Bolventor / Jamaica Inn). In the roadworks area.

"Police report patches of flooding heading across Bodmin Moor. Affecting traffic travelling between Bodmin and Launceston."

Becoming drier throughout the evening and overnight as rain clears eastwards through the region. The occasional shower may persist, these could be heavy at times with a risk of hail. Winds easing slightly overnight. Minimum temperature 4 °C.


Sunny spells and blustery showers throughout the day, some of which may be heavy with a risk of hail and possibly some sleet over the moors. Windy with coastal gales. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

The weekend and Monday should be mostly dry and fine, although feeling colder with widespread frost overnight. The far southwest may see the odd spot of rain on Saturday.
