A Cornish home owner is urging others to check their tumble dryers after his sparked a house fire.

Firefighters were called to Newquay on Thursday amid reports of laundry on fire.

Crews used a hose reel jet to put the blaze out and luckily no one hurt.

But significant damage has been caused to the house.

The home owner fears it could have been much worse, if they were out or had been asleep upstairs.

"Today we attended another property fire caused by a tumble dryer, and sadly someone’s home has been very badly damaged.

"If you own a tumble dryer there’s some things you should do to make sure it is safe to use.

"Your tumble dryer may be part of a product recall which you may be unaware of, you can check online to see if yours is on the list.

"There is also some important maintenance you may need to do to make sure you are using your dryer as safely as possible.

"Thankfully no one was injured."
