Late night searches are carried out for people reportedly missing in the sea in freezing conditions at Perranporth.

Coastguard crews, a lifeboat, police and a rescue helicopter all got the shout at around 1am on Sunday.

One woman came out of the water by herself and as taken to hospital by ambulance.

It was then confirmed that no one else was missing and the teams were stood down.

"Newquay's RNLI volunteers were alerted by their pagers at 1am on Sunday (19th January) and launched the charity's Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat in freezing conditions to search for people reported missing in the sea at Perranporth.

"The lifeboat crew joined colleagues from St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat, St Agnes Coastguard, police and the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, searching Perranporth Bay in calm and clear conditions.

"One woman was taken to hospital by an ambulance crew after coming out of the sea unaided and police were later able to confirm that nobody else was missing.

"The various emergency teams were stood down by UK Coastguard at 2am and Newquay's RNLI volunteers returned to the harbour at 2.15am, where the lifeboat was recovered, washed, refuelled, rehoused and made ready for service.

"Despite their late night, the RNLI crew returned to the lifeboat station and launched both lifeboats on exercise in sunny conditions a few hours later."
