Dog falls 20m down mineshaft in west Cornwall

A dog has fallen 20 metres down a mineshaft in west Cornwall.

Firefighters from Tolvaddon and Hayle were called to St Hilary, near Penzance, on Monday afternoon.

Crews cleared the area around the shaft so they could lower personnel to recover Bo the German Shepherd cross.

Specialist line rescue technicians also got the shout to the scene.

It has now been confirmed that Bo was successfully rescued and has been reunited with his owner.

"Animal Rescue. Long Lanes, St. Hilary. 

"Crews from Tolvaddon CFRS and Hayle CFRS are in attendance to rescue a dog which has fallen twenty metres down a mineshaft.

"Crews are currently clearing the area around the shaft, preparing to lower personnel to recover the dog."

Update 2.30pm: "A firefighter has been lowered into the shaft using lines."

Update 2.45pm: "The dog has been successfully rescued by the fire service and handed over to its grateful owner."
