Two dogs have been rescued from a huge fire at a manor house in north Cornwall.

Firefighters from across Cornwall and Devon were scrambled to Poughill on Monday morning.

At its height, crews from Bude, Delabole, Launceston, St Austell and Holsworthy were at the scene.

They were battling to stop the flames from spreading to the first floor of the property.

Nearby roads in the village were closed for several hours.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed one person was treated for breathing in smoke but was unhurt.

"Both pumping appliances from Bude were called to reports of a fire in a house in Poughill.

"On arrival, smoke and flames were found to be issuing from the building.

"Two extra appliances were requested from Delabole Community Fire Station and Holsworthy Fire Station.

"BA teams extinguished the fire and a fire investigation is underway.

"The occupant is unhurt and was treated for smoke inhalation and crews were able to rescue two dogs from the property.

"The road between the Poughill Post Office and Inches Shop was closed but has now re-opened".
