Search operation amid fears for person in water

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 2:14pm 22nd January 2020.

A multi-agency rescue operation involving a helicopter is launched in Falmouth amid fears for a person in the water.

Coastguard crews, the RNLI and police all got the shout to reports of a drifting vessel near Port Pendennis Marina on Tuesday evening.

It was found that another boat had picked up the one difficulty but two oars were spotted in the water.

Teams scoured the sea but no one was found and searches were stood down.

Anyone who has lost a small rowing boat is being asked to contact Falmouth Coastguard.

"Falmouth Lifeboat (ILB and later Boarding Boat and ALB) Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924, Devon and Cornwall Police and Duty Senior Coastal Operations Officer S11C were all tasked.

"On scene, it was discovered that another vessel had picked up the boat in question just off the breakwater at Port Pendennis.

"The outboard was down and warm, with two oars also in the water, leading to suspicion that that may have been a person in the water.

"Search teams made investigations locally and saturated the search areas. With nothing found, teams were stood down by 2255.

"If this was you and you've lost a small rowing type vessel, please contact Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre on 01326 317575 and they'll be able to reunite you with it."
