Bins 'torched' in early-hours fires in St Ives

Two middle-of-the-night bin fires in St Ives are being treated as arson.

Firefighters were scrambled to the first blaze in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The second broke out shortly afterwards.

Posting on social media, crews said a specialist engine was dispatched because of the narrow streets.

Firefighters shared images of the incidents, showing the bins well alight and badly damaged.

"C13P5 sent to a bin fire in the narrow streets in St Ives.

"Crews extinguished the fire and had a second shout to another bin fire. 

"C13P5 was used for the narrow access capabilities. 

"The police where informed".

In a statement given to Cornwall Live, police confirmed that they were also called at around 2.30am.

The force has since said that the log has been closed.
