Pub wall 'collapses' in the centre of Tavistock

A street in the centre of Tavistock had to be closed amid reports a pub wall had collapsed.

Police tweeted to say the area was coronded off because the building is 'unsafe'.

Firefighters were also scrambled after it happened late on Wednesday night.

Nearby properties had to be evacuated but emergency services say all people were accounted for.

"The fire service were called to reports of a building collapse at the above location. Fire control mobilised one fire engine from Tavistock.

"Once the crew got in attendance the officer in charge confirmed a wall from a three-storey property had collapsed. Crews are currently evacuating nearby properties, setting up cordons and monitoring the property.

Update at 02:30am: "The utilities to the property have now been isolated and the incident has been handed over to the police to maintain cordon put in place. 

"All persons have been accounted for and the fire service have now left the incident".

"Police were notified at around 11.30pm last night, Wednesday 22 January, following reports of a collapsed wall at a pub on Pym Street in Tavistock.

"No injuries have been reported and a police cordon is currently in place".

Inrix Traffic and Travel say Pym Street was closed in both directions, but reopened on Thursday afternoon.
