A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a young man in Liskeard.

Police were called to the Cattle Market car park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A local man in his 20s was found with what were described as multiple stab wounds.

The casualty was rushed to Derriford Hospital but, tragically, could not be saved.

His next of kin have been informed but formal identification is yet to take place.

Detectives have since confirmed that a 45-year-old local man has been arrested.

A cordon remains in place and anyone who saw something just before 1am is being urged to come forward.

“We have, this afternoon, arrested a man on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in the early hours of this morning.

“I’m keen to provide reassurance that this is being treated as an isolated incident.

“This investigation remains in its early stages and I would ask that you avoid speculation whilst enquires are carried out.

“Officers will remain visible in the City Centre area over the coming hours whilst further enquiries are carried out".

Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Steve Hambly

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 265 26/1/20.
