Snow flurries could fall over Bodmin Moor

Snow flurries could fall over Bodmin Moor

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 2:06pm 27th January 2020.

Cornwall is told that there could be a slight chance of snow... over high ground and moors.

The Met Office say the temperature is set to drop on Monday night.

That could bring sleet and snow flurries in places like Bodmin Moor through into Tuesday.

But forecasters say it is unlikely that the white stuff will settle or fall over lower ground in the Duchy.

Showers are on the cards too so we could see more in the way of hail and sleet falling.

The Kernow Weather Team has also issued a 'snow watch' as it predicts a few flurries on Tuesday also.

"As we go through tonight is when we might start to see a bit of sleet and a bit of snow, mainly over higher ground. I'll be surprised if any lower levels see anything.

"Even over Bodmin Moor not a great deal is likely to settle, it's going to be quite slushy.

"One thing we do have to bear in mind for Tuesday though it's going to be windy, there are going to be showers, it's going to be windy and it's going to feel cold.

"We could get a touch of frost and a few icy patches then tomorrow it will feel cold out and about.

"It is going to be quite wet sleet and snow, so slushy rather than powdery, so there might be a bit of sleet with hail mixed in, but most of it will be falling as rain."

Alex Burkhill, Met Office

But Alex added that a band of cold weather could possibly bring the chance of a few snowy conditions next week.

"There are signs of something a little bit drier and a little bit more settled next week, there is a bit of uncertainty about this, but if that happens then that could allow temperatures to drop and we may start to see a greater chance of some snow, but that is awfully far away at the minute."

Alex Burkhill, Met Office
