Detectives leading a murder inquiry in Liskeard have asked for more time to question a suspect.

A young man in his 20s suffered multiple stab wounds.

The casualty was rushed to Derriford Hospital but, tragically, he could not be saved.

The senior investigating officer confirmed a 45-year-old local man had been arrested.

Now officers have requested an extra 12 hours for questioning and the man remains in custody.

"Investigating officers have applied for a Superintendents extension to allow them further time to continue their enquries.

"A man remains in police custody."

Devon and Cornwall Police

Police are reassuring the public, saying the case is being treated as an isolated incident.

Extra police patrols are being carried out in the area over the next few days and people are being urged not to speculate on social media.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 265 26/1/20.
