Homes 'possibly targeted' for dog thefts

Homes 'possibly targeted' for dog thefts

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 4:03pm 27th January 2020.

A warning is going out about 'suspicious circumstances' in north Cornwall which could mean homes are being targeted for dog thefts.

Police say a dog owner in Launceston returned home to find their back gate open with a sticker stuck to it.

There were no signs of a break in but officers think the sticker is identifying a house where there is a dog 'worth stealing'.

People in the area are urged to be vigilant and also make sure their pets are safe and secure.

Anyone with information about what happened in the Penhole Drive area last Thursday afternoon is asked to contact officers.

"Police would like you to be aware of the following suspicious circumstances in your local area of Penhole Drive, Launceston.

"The owner of a young dog returned home to find the rear gate open. On closer inspection a sticker was found to have been stuck on the gate.

"No attempt at a break in to the house was evident, but concern that this sticker is identifying where a dog worth stealing lives.

"This may not be the case, but all dog owners are advised to ensure their dogs are secure and safe.

"The incident took place during the day on Thursday 23rd January 2020."
