Gas leak hits one of busiest roads in Truro

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 10:19am 28th January 2020. (Updated at 4:32pm 28th January 2020)

A gas leak has sparked lane closures on one of the busiest roads in Truro.

There are problems with a pipe running underneath Tregolls Road.

It is affecting traffic in both directions at the junction with Trafalgar Roundabout.

Emergency repairs are being carried out, but we do not know how long they will take.

Traffic and travel service, Inrix, is reporting two-mile queues in the area, as well as delays on the A390.

Wales & West Utilities has issued an apology, saying the work is vital to safeguard the supply.

This is there latest update:

"We are continuing to work in the Tregolls Road area of Truro to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we have closed a lane running in both directions along Tregolls Road at its junction with Trafalgar Roundabout.

“This is a complex job and with difficult ground conditions in the area, we do not yet know how long our work will take. Our engineers have been working around the clock and will continue to work as quickly and as safely as they can to make a repair.

“We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, and are sorry for the disruption it may cause, but it is important that we fix this leak now, in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses in the area.”

Steve Bakes, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Truro

"One lane closed and queueing traffic for two miles due to gas leak on A39 Tregolls Road in both directions between Trevithick Road and B3284 St Austell Street (Trafalgar roundabout). Travel time is ten minutes.

"Sensors indicate long queues approaching Truro on the A390".
