Fears of Cornwall homes targeted for dog thefts

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 10:46am 28th January 2020. (Updated at 2:19pm 28th January 2020)

A sticker found outside a home in Cornwall has sparked fresh fears about attempts to steal dogs.

An owner returned from a walk to find it stuck to their gate in Launceston.

Police say there was no evidence of a break-in last Thursday.

However, there are concerns the sticker could have been used to mark the property of a dog worth stealing.

It comes after reports of men knocking on doors and asking questions about pets in the Camborne area, who later told police they were only looking for work.

"Police would like you to be aware of the following suspicious circumstances in your local area of Penhole Drive, Launceston.

"The owner of a young dog returned home to find the rear gate open.

"On closer inspection a sticker was found to have been stuck on the gate. No attempt at a break in to the house was evident, but concern that this sticker is identifying where a dog worth stealing lives.

"This may not be the case, but all dog owners are advised to ensure their dogs are secure and safe.

"The incident took place during the day on Thursday 23rd January 2020.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting log number 0583 25012020

"Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or reporting online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org".
