A multi-vehicle crash closed a stretch of the A30 - and was affecting anyone travelling to and from Cornwall.

Police think six vehicles were involved near Okehampton and there were reports of people being trapped.

It is understood that one left the carriageway and went down an embankment.

Firefighters were on the scene at Sticklepath to help but officers say that there are no life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed in both directions but officials have now confirmed that both directions have reopened.

"Police were called at 11.05am today to the A30 at Sticklepath near Okehampton following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.

"It's believed six vehicles are involved. Injuries are unknown at this time.

"There are reports of people trapped in their vehicles - the fire service are on scene assisting.

"The road has been closed in both directions at this time.

"We will provide further information when it becomes available."

Devon and Cornwall Police

The road closure was affecting anyone travelling between Okehampton and Exeter.

"All lanes open and traffic returned to normal, accident cleared on A30 Eastbound from B3260 Exeter Road (Okehampton Services, Okehampton) to A382 (Whiddon Down, Whiddon Down).

"Lane two (of two) was closed following an accident where one of the vehicles involved had left the carriageway and had come to rest down an embankment."
