Isles of Scilly flight operator Skybus has announced that it will leave its hangar at Cornwall Airport Newquay in May.

The move will mean that all of the Skybus engineering operations will now be based at Land’s End Airport.

Skybus owner and operator, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said the decision to vacate Newquay was due to the company moving to operate one type of aircraft instead of two.

The change will not affect Skybus flights operating to and from Newquay but four jobs are at risk with the company saying it is in consultation with those affected.

"We announced last year that from March 2020 Skybus is moving from two to one aircraft type.

"This means we will have extra engineering capacity at Land’s End Airport so we are bringing our engineering services there and will vacate the Newquay hangar from May this year.

"We are consulting with the four staff affected by the move.

"This decision does not impact our current schedule from Newquay."

Newquay airport declined to comment on the Skybus decision to vacate the Newquay hangar.

Skybus has been the Isles of Scilly airline for more than 30 years and currently operates from Land’s End, Newquay and Exeter airports.

The company operates year-round flights and can have as many as 60 a day during busy times.
