Busy road in Truro reopens as gas leak is fixed

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 5:16pm 29th January 2020. (Updated at 6:08pm 29th January 2020)

One of the main roads though Truro has now reopened - over 24 hours after a gas leak.

Lane closures at Tregolls, near the junction with the Trafalgar Roundabout, sparked four-mile queues on Tuesday.

Engineers worked through the night and into Wednesday to get the problem fixed.

Wales & West Utilities said they had to wait for the new surface to set before the road could be reopened.

As of 5pm they confirmed that all the work has been completed.

They have thanked the public for their patience and say it was important to fix the leak as soon as possible so people could heat their homes.

Tregolls Road in Truro

"We have been working in the Tregolls Road area of Truro to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we worked, we closed a lane running in both directions along Tregolls Road at its junction with Trafalgar Roundabout.

"After working through the night our engineers have repaired the leak and have now reopened the road.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we fixed this leak. We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, and always try hard to keep disruption to a minimum.

"It was important that we fixed this leak as soon as possible to keep the gas flowing so that people can heat their homes and power their businesses."

Steve Bakes, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Truro
