The closure of the main road into St Ives has been brought to an end two weeks early.

The stretch through Carbis Bay was scheduled to be shut until 13th February.

It is because of upgrades to the sewers, being carried out by South West Water.

Officials say the rest of the work will under two-way traffic lights, starting on Monday 3rd February.

Carbis Bay Road Closures
South West Water has confirmed the closure of a stretch of the main road to St Ives is ending on Friday, two weeks ahead of schedule

"South West Water is upgrading sections of sewer along St Ives Road and Longstone Hill in Carbis Bay to improve the service to residents and businesses in the local area.

"We began preparatory in the area in November 2019, which was completed on Friday 20th December 2019.

"The sewer upgrade began with a road closure on Monday 6th January 2020 which was completed on Friday 31st January.

"The remaining work will begin under two-way traffic lights on Monday 3rd February and will be completed on Friday 20th March 2020.

"Beginning work on site allowed us to survey the sewers in more detail than our previous method of using CCTV had provided.

"The surveys showed some sections of sewer were in better condition than first believed and did not require the essential work that others did.

"Using this new knowledge – and following feedback from residents - we will now focus only on relining the most essential sections of sewer.

"This will allow us to reduce the period of disruption for residents and businesses and complete the work in the most timely and cost-effective way, requiring shorter road closures than originally planned".
