The family of a young man who died in Liskeard have paid a heartfelt tribute.

Damien Bendelow was found in the Cattle Market car park after police were called to reports of a serious assault.

The 20-year-old was rushed to Derriford in the early hours of Sunday 26th January but, tragically, could not be saved.

In a statement released by Devon and Cornwall Police, Damien’s family said his death has left a massive hole in their hearts.

"We are all as a family absolutely devastated”.

They added: He has been taken away from us. Twenty years of love and life gone in twenty seconds.

"He was such a lovable cheeky chap and loved by everyone and the community it has left a massive hole in our hearts and all we can hope for now is getting justice for Damien.

"Sleep tight pidge rest in peace love Dad, Mum, Grace, Richard and all the siblings”.

Detectives launched a murder investigation and a local man in his 40s, arrested later that day, has since been charged.

He was also charged with four counts of common assault.

He appeared at Truro Magistrates’ Court on 28th January and was remanded in police custody, to appear before Truro Crown Court on February 20th.
