A homeless man has rushed to help a young woman who collapsed in the street in St Austell.

The 'good Samaritan' used his own jacket and blanket to keep her warm after calling 999.

The local policing team has praised his kindness on social media, posting "don't judge a book by its cover".

"In the early hours of this morning in St Austell Town, a young lady was found collapsed in the street.

"The man who found her called the emergency services, used his own jacket and blanket to protect her & keep her warm, looking after her & keeping her safe until emergency services arrived.

"That good Samaritan was a member of the homeless community.

"A massive thank you to this man for your kindness.

"Don't judge a book by its cover".
