Cornwall has secured a big win at the BAFTAs, thanks to a low-budget black and white movie.

Filmed on a vintage camera, Bait was tells the story of modern-day fisherman struggling to buy a boat.

The film, written and directed by Mark Jenkin from Newlyn, bagged Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director of Producer.

It was also nominated for Best British Film, but missed out to war epic 1917.

However lots of fans and industry experts have been posting about Bait's success.

Mark Kermode, who tweets as KermodeMovie, said: "SO brilliant to see this Cornish masterpiece receive just recognition. BRAVO".

While Falmouth University posted: "Congratulations to our own @Mark_Jenkin on winning Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director of Producer".

What is Bait about?

2018 film Bait tells the story of cove fisherman Martin Ward, played by Edward Rowe, who is in need of a boat.

"Martin Ward is a cove fisherman, without a boat. His brother Steven has re-purposed their father's vessel as a tourist tripper, driving a wedge between the brothers.

"With their childhood home now a get-away for London money, Martin is displaced to the estate above the picturesque harbour.

"As his struggle to restore the family to their traditional place creates increasing friction with tourists and locals alike, a tragedy at the heart of the family changes his world".
