Police have issued an urgent appeal after an assault in St Austell.

The incident happened on Bodmin Street in the early hours of Wednesday.

Officers believe a group of men in their 20s were involved and they are looking for witnesses.

Anyone who saw something between midnight and 6am, or who heard someone talking about it, is being urged to come forward.

"Enquiries are at an early stage as we try to piece together what has happened.

"We would ask that any witnesses to events make contact with us.
