ANOTHER wind warning for Cornwall

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 11:19am 8th February 2020.

ANOTHER wind warning has been issued for Cornwall before Storm Ciara has even hit.

The Met Office says the Duchy will be battered by more strong winds on Monday, in the wake of Ciara.

Gusts could reach up to 70mph and the yellow alert will be in force from 10am through until 7pm.

More big waves with the possibility of coastal flooding is expected too.

What to expect:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

"Although it will remain widely rather windy in the wake of Storm Ciara, a further swathe of very strong winds is possible across the far south of England during Monday.

"Gusts of 60-70 mph could develop quite widely over parts of SW England during Monday morning, before moving east through the afternoon to affect other exposed coastal parts of southern England.

"Large waves are expected along the coasts, with a small chance of localised coastal flooding."

What about Storm Ciara?

The severe weather warning for Sunday has been ramped up to 'amber' by the Met Office.

Forecasters say flying debris and large waves could lead to injuries or a danger to life.

The Duchy will be battered by gales of up to 80mph and 'gigantic' waves across the whole day.

Travel disruption is expected, along with power problems and potential damage to buildings.
