'Hazardous' conditions on A30 as sleet and hail hit

Published by Emma Carton at 8:13am 11th February 2020. (Updated at 10:22am 11th February 2020)

Police and weather groups have issued a warning to drivers as sleet and hail hit the A30.

There have been reports of two crashes over the Cornwall border at Sourton Cross.

One vehicle has reportedly flipped over.

Conditions are being described as hazardous in several areas, including Summercourt and Fraddon.

It comes as the Met Office forecasts unsettled, wintry showers in the wake of Storm Ciara.

Tavistock Police have also tweeted to urge motorists to take extra care around Sourton Down in Devon.

Officers were called to deal with a crash first thing on Tuesday morning.

Another has been reported in the area at the end of rush-hour, involving an overturned vehicle.

"Queueing traffic due to rolling road block and overturned vehicle on A30 Westbound from A386 (Sourton Cross, Sourton Down) to A30 (Stowford Cross, Broadwoodwidger).

A rolling road block has been implemented to recovery the overturned vehicle, following a two-vehicle accident.

"There are reports of a second accident blocking the same lane on this stretch.

"Not helped by heavy downpour of hail in the area".
