One person taken to hospital after lightning strike

One person has been taken to hospital after a day of lightning strikes in Cornwall.

Bolts damaged two homes in Par and Penzance, as the tail end of Storm Ciara hit the Duchy on Monday.

Firefighters were also called to reports of a person being struck by lightning in Summercourt.

They say it had hit a BT junction box and one casualty was injured in the process.

"Critical Control received a 999 call reporting a person struck by lightening. 

"One appliance from Truro, one appliance from Newquay and a Flexi-Duty Group Manager were sent to the scene. 

"On arrival crews found lightening had struck a BT junction box and one casualty had suffered minor injuries in the process. 

"Crews made the scene safe and the casualty was taken to hospital by paramedics".
