Appeal for dashcam footage after fatal crash

An appeal for dashcam footage has gone out after a fatal crash on a back road near Falmouth.

Two cars collided at Mawnan Smith during Wednesday morning's drive to work.

Tragically one of the drivers, a local man in his 70s, died at the scene and his family has been told.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the other driver was not hurt.

Investigators went over the scene and are now urging anyone who saw what happened just after 7am to come forward.

"Police were called at 7.10am today, Wednesday 12th February, to Penwarne Road, near Mawnan Smith following reports of a two vehicle collision.

"Emergency services attended the scene where a grey Ford Fiesta and a black Saab estate had been in collision. The Ford was travelling northbound and the Saab in the opposite direction.

"Despite the best efforts from members of the public and emergency services, the driver of the Ford, a local man in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"The driver of the Saab was uninjured.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene and carried out a detailed investigation. 

"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage, or witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision".
