'Immediate action' flood warnings for Cornwall

'Immediate action' flooding warnings have been issued for several rivers in Cornwall, due to Storm Dennis.

The warnings mean flooding is expected and are in force for stretches of the River Lynher and Tamar.

It comes after a day of torrential rain and gales across the Duchy and Devon, with more set to hit on Saturday.

A double weather warning remains in force, for strong winds until 12pm on Sunday and for downpours until 9pm.

What flood warnings and alerts are in force for Cornwall?

  • Flood warning: River Lynher from Berriowbridge to Notter Bridge
  • Flood warning: River Tamar from Greystone Bridge to Cotehele
  • Flood warning: River Ottery at Yeolmbridge and Ham Mill
  • Flood alert - Upper River Tamar
  • Flood alert - Middle River Tamar
  • Flood alert - Lower River Tamar
  • Flood alert - River Fowey
  • Flood alert - North Cornwall Rivers
  • Flood alert - Helford and Fal Rivers
  • Flood alert - West Cornwall Rivers

The alerts and warnings are in force over Sunday morning's high tides and will last through until at least Sunday afternoon.

What action should be taken?

"High river levels on the River Lynher are forecast to coincide with the high tides both tonight Saturday 15th February and again tomorrow morning Sunday 16th February.

"The time of the high tide on Saturday night is 22:30 and Sunday morning at 10:45am.

"The river is expected to peak between 18:00 to 22:00 on Saturday and again between 9am and 13:00 on Sunday 16th February.

"Catchments are saturated, with ponding water around low lying land, roads.

"Property flooding is possible at the Notter Bridge Holiday Park, Notter Bridge Inn and Crylla Valley Cottages Although the heaviest of the rain has now passed this afternoon, further heavy rain is forecast for later tonight and tomorrow morning.

"Please take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

"We are constantly monitoring river levels and will be updating this message as the situation changes".
