Cousin jailed after Camborne teen's death

The cousin of a Camborne teenager has been jailed after he was found guilty of supplying the drugs that led to her death.

Shakira Pellow took pills containing MDMA with her friends at Pengegon Park in July 2018. The 15-year-old collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

She suffered multiple cardiac arrests and organ failure and tragically she died the next day.

After the incident, three other 15-year-olds were also taken to hospital and later recovered from the effects of drug taking.

Shakira's cousin, Oakley Willoughby, had denied possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

Following a three-day trial at Truro Crown Court, a jury found the 18-year-old from Parc an Tansys, Pengegon, to be guilty.

He has now been sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders institute.

18-year-old Joshua Ward from St Day had already admitted the same charge. He is due to be sentenced on March 13th.

"Today sees the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into the supply of MDMA (ecstasy) to Shakira Pellow and three other young people, the youngest aged 13.

"The outcome assists to bring closure for Shakira’s family and friends and holds those involved in the supply of the drugs responsible for their actions.

"Anyone who provides another with an illegal drug takes on significant risk; sadly in this case Shakira and her family paid the ultimate price.

"This case serves as a tragic reminder of the risks associated with the use and supply of drugs and I would urge those involved in either, to seriously consider the consequences."

Detective Inspector Glenn Willcocks
