Mum of Camborne teen hopes family can 'grieve together'

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 7:30am 19th February 2020. (Updated at 9:44am 19th February 2020)

The mum of a Camborne teenager who died after taking drugs says she the hopes the family can now grieve together.

Shakira Pellow collapsed in a park back in July 2018 after taking three pills that contained MDMA.

The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital where she suffered multiple cardiac arrests and organ failure.

Tragically she could not be saved and died the next day.

Now her mum has spoken out after a three-day trial at Truro Crown Court.

Shakira's 18-year-old cousin, Oakley Willoughby, was convicted of supplying the drugs that ultimately led to her death.

On Tuesday he was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders institute.

Rita Hole, Shakira's mum, spoke to ITV News West Country outside the court.

She said she is full of emotion after having to re-live the incident this week.

"She was such a lovely girl, easily loved, kind, considerate, she was a diamond, but she made an awful, awful mistake and she's had to pay the ultimate price for it.

"I just hope now it's all over we can grieve for Shakira and she can rest in peace.

"Perhaps we can grieve as a family together, now it's all over."
