A man has appeared in court and denied murder after the death of a young man from Liskeard.

Police were called to reports of a serious assault in the Cattle Market car park in the town in January.

Officers say that Damien Bendelow had suffered multiple stab wounds.

The 20-year-old was rushed to Derriford hospital but he could not be saved.

A local man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder that day and was later charged.

Carl Smythe, of Varley Lane in the town, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Thursday 20th February.

The 45-year-old pleaded not guilty to one count of murder. He has been remanded in custody.

A trial is now due to start on the 27th July, with a pre-trial review due to take place on the 5th June.
