Photos have emerged of a giant stranded whale being removed from a beach in Cornwall.

The 60-foot-long fin whale was discovered at Nare Point on the Lizard on Friday afternoon.

Experts from British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were called to the scene to help.

Sadly the massive mammal could not be saved.

Postmortem tests have been carried out, initial findings show that the whale's stomach was empty.

Experts say this mean the creature had not eaten in a long time and is likely to have starved.

No traces of plastic were found in the stomach either.

Now work is underway to remove the carcass from the beach.

Photos show a crane lifting the giant fin whale before it is loaded onto a lorry.

"Team members requested to attend nare point for public safety whilst the recent stranded whale was refloated and removed.

"Recent weather had made cliff paths slippery so team members made sure all members of public were at a safe distance from the cliff edges whilst they watched".
