Cold snap triggers ice warning for Cornwall

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 11:31am 25th February 2020. (Updated at 6:59pm 25th February 2020)

The Met Office has issued an ice warning for Cornwall as temperatures plummet.

The yellow alert for hazardous conditions will be in force across Wednesday's rush-hour.

It comes as wintry showers are forecast to hit the Duchy and Devon over the next 24 hours.

Forecasters say some parts of Dartmoor and even Bodmin Moor could see a dusting of snow.

What can we expect?

The yellow weather warning for ice will be in force from midnight until 10am on Wednesday.

Whilst parts of the south-west could see some snow, the Met Office says ice and hail showers are the biggest risk.

Forecasters say conditions could be hazardous during the drive to work, warning us to expect:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

"A mix of rain and hail showers, with some snow over higher ground, is likely to leave surfaces wet overnight.

"Surface temperatures are then expected to fall below freezing with icy stretches forming in places".
